Making a game with Unity. web source: Flickr |
I played around with textures and materials and applying them to different objects. I learned about opacity and brush strokes in the terrain tool and how to apply them to make interesting terrains such as mountains etc. I learned how to bring assets into the software, I learned that Unity provide free assets within the game that we can use in our games which I thought that was helpful for beginners to get used to the program. Initially, I found it quite difficult to navigate the camera controls because I don't have a mouse but I eventually got the hang of it.
I enjoyed the freedom the software gives you to create what you like, I found it fascinating how Unity pays so much attention to detail, for example the wind speed and how it affects the grass. I am quite a perfectionist so this attention to detail excites me.
I found the scripting the most difficult part of all, it is quite unlike the coding I am used to. But in saying that, the outcome of the scripting was fascinating, you can make objects move/spin etc. I think this will be really exciting to play around with when I learn more about scripting.
I look forward to developing my skills and building my confidence on Unity.
